1944

The origin of the production of frying ranges in the Netherlands can be attributed to Quirinus Bakker. Originally, he built car bodies but in 1944 he took over a building business in Kamerik. A representative told him about the growing demand for frying ranges. Together with his brother Jan, who now had an active role in the company, Quirinus Bakker started working. And so, in 1953, they produced their first frying range. Because of the success of their frying range, Bakker stopped building car bodies to focus solely on producing frying equipment. He named the ranges Perfecta. In 1958, the production was so high that they needed a commercial department to streamline the sales. Under the name Kiréma (with director J. Kwakkenbos), perfecta frying ranges were sold in the Netherlands and Belgium.

1965

1965

In 1958 the phenomenon of chips was introduced from America to the Netherlands. In 1965, Kiremko was founded as a branch of Kiréma, which was supplying equipment to snack bars and restaurants. Before this time, the snack market was an American phenomenon and hardly known in Europe. Kirema succeeded in conquering this new market with Kiremko, first with manual frying ranges and shortly there-after with automatic pre-frying ranges.

Because the market kept growing, the demand for production lines with bigger capacity increased and Kiremko Food Processing Equipment was founded, in Montfoort, as an independent company to reach this demand. Kiremko Food Processing Equipment is still producing food processing equipment in Montfoort including pre-frying ranges for chips/frites producers and equipment for the vegetable processing industry. These products are supplied all over the world. In the early 80's, Kiremko Food Processing Equipment started to produce frying equipment for restaurants and cafés as well as their industrial products.

1987

1987

In 1987 the part of the business dedicated to catering was acquired by Okkerman Operating Devices. And so, Gijs and Marijke Okkerman took charge of the catering part of Kiremko January first 1987 and were joined a few years later, by brother Marcel, who was (and still is) responsible for technical development. The relation with Kiremko Food Processing Equipment still exists to this day. Engineers of both companies work closely together on development and on several joint projects.

In 20 years' time, the Okkerman Kiremko family (now QBTEC) has expanded from a small humble catering supplier to an internationally operating heavy-weight within the world of commercial frying installations. They started building a company based on core values such as quality, personal approach and product innovation. This appealed to the market and the company kept growing and became front runner in innovation and market leader in the catering supply industry. But Kiremko wanted more.

An appealing target sector were fish entrepreneurs who cooked their product in frying ranges. This is why, in 1994, the company took over the Smitto Equipment factory in Nijkerk.

In June 2007 the time had finally come. The three premium brands of frying ranges Kiremko, Perfecta and Smitto are produced in the same factory in Woerden. A logical choice, as one would think. A known production process, dedicated personnel and a breeding ground of experience. Europe's biggest producer of frying equipment, and rightfully so. On a daily basis, an inconceivable amount of experience is being bundled in order to provide the customer with the best frying equipment in the world.

After years of innovation, QBTEC brings out a revolutionary new technique; the HIFRI fryer - frying without grease. Thanks to the HiFri (High-tech frying) technique, we can fry chips and snacks with convection and steam, without even a hint of frying grease! Not only does it reduce smell and calories, you lose the expense of buying frying grease. An important question is of course: does this responsible way of frying taste just as good? Our tests have undeniably proved this to be the case. The chips and snacks are just as tasty and crispy as chips and snacks from an ordinary fryer. Curious? Feel free to come and have a taste.
